Join Us in Shaping Kings Mountain's Future: Farmers Market and Cabooses Proposal

The City of Kings Mountain is embarking on an exciting journey to enhance our community's vibrancy through the continued development of a Parks and Recreation Master Plan. A pivotal aspect of this plan is the establishment of a publicly-owned or long-term lease-controlled site for our beloved Farmers Market, ensuring its sustainability for years to come.

While currently held on private property, the Farmers Market faces uncertain long-term availability. To secure its future, we have identified the historic site of the old depot, cabooses, and parking—formerly home to the Southern Arts Society—as the ideal location for revitalization. Our initial steps have already begun with a successful demolition of a condemned brick structure, paving the way for future enhancements.

Under the guidance of City Manager Jim Palenick, we have recently solicited proposals regarding the two cabooses stationed at the site. These cabooses, which have historical ties dating back to their donation in 1977-79, hold potential for preservation or relocation efforts. Proposals range from acquiring them for repurposing to facilitating their removal, with decisions ultimately resting with the City Council following thorough evaluation.

Your engagement is crucial as we navigate these transformative initiatives. Continue to follow us for updates following the proposal deadline on June 28th, as we move towards a sustainable future for our Farmers Market and community spaces. Together, let's shape the future of Kings Mountain—one proposal at a time.

Thank you for your support and involvement in our shared vision.
