I am a lifelong resident of Kings Mountain. Kings Mountain is in my blood. The first Mayor of Kings Mountain was my great great grandfather W.A. Mauney.
I graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL with a BS Degree in Health and Physical Education.
For 37 years I worked in my family's textile business, Dicey Fabrics in Shelby, NC. I worked in the quality, manufacturing and sales departments of the company specializing in upholstery fabric for the furniture industry.
In 1989 I was elected to the ward 6 city council seat. Two years later I was one of the last elected officials in North Carolina required to resign that seat to run for Mayor. In 1991 I was elected and served as Mayor from 1991 to 1999 (3 terms).
Beginning in 1989, as a hobby, I was actively broadcasting sporting events for various radio stations. Little did I know, with the demise of textiles, that radio would become my life's vocation. I purchased AM 1450 WGNC in Gastonia in 2009 and am working full time there now.
I have always been active in Kings Mountain, being a member of the Cleveland County Healthcare System's board for 26 years, elder at First Presbyterian Church, and associate member of Good Hope Presbyterian both in Kings Mountain. I have shot the City of Kings Mountain's 4th of July fireworks show for 26 years and initiated the Downtown Christmas Fantasy Light Show.
In 2015 the citizens once again had faith in me and I was re-elected as Mayor of this great city. I have been energized once again to take the city to the next level. It is my goal to ensure that Kings Mountain remains the best city to live, work and play. I have been married to Dawn for 6 years and between us we have 6 children: Wendy, Garrett, Alex, Avan, Ashton, and Allen.
