General Information
The Public Works Department is responsible for city streets and right-of-way maintenance, storm water repair, solid waste removal, recycling, sidewalk maintenance, curb and gutter repairs, and maintenance of public buildings and grounds, among other improvements to the Kings Mountain infrastructure.
Garbage: Household trash is picked up Monday thru Thursday each week on a scheduled route. Only bagged household trash should be put in your rollout container.
Recycling Program: Household recycling is picked up Monday thru Friday on a ten (10) route every-other week schedule. The single stream program is designed to make it easy for every citizen to participate. All glass, plastic, paper, and aluminum recyclables should be placed UNBAGGED in the container and rolled to the curb on your day of pick-up.
Roadside: Bulk trash and furniture are picked up on Fridays. The City is not responsible for picking up any Building or Remodeling Materials (including but not limited to: lumber, bricks, plaster, roofing materials, fence wire, boards with nails, rocks, sand, dirt, carpeting, and concrete).
Limbs: Limbs are picked up Monday thru Friday each week on a route. Limbs should be placed behind the curb for pick up and should not exceed 5’ length by 4” diameter. Not more than one (1) pile 3 feet wide by 3 feet high by 5 feet long will be picked up per week per residence. Branches & trimmings cut by commercial landscape or tree service contractors will not be picked up by the city and should be removed by the contractor.
Leaves: Loose leaves and grass trimmings will be vacuumed from the beginning of November until the middle of February each year. Leaves must be bagged for pickup at any other time. Leaves should be placed behind the curb and never in the roadway.
Each residence inside the city limits is provided with one 95 gallon roll-out container for garbage, and one 95 gallon roll-out container for recycling. These containers are the property of the City of Kings Mountain and are assigned to a specific residence. Additional containers may be purchased at cost from the City. Replacements for stolen containers may be purchased at cost from the City.
